With the idea of education and gender equality gaining popularity in the global sphere, equality for a much neglected community, which is the LGBTQ, is still a distant dream that needs to be turned into reality.                                                                                                                                                         

If you didn’t know, LGBTQ is the acronym for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning. These are the distinct groups within the queer culture.

                                                        

Heterosexual – A person who is attracted to a person of opposite gender in both romantic and sexual sense.

Homosexual – A person who is romantically and sexually attracted to a person of the same gender.

Lesbian – A homosexual woman.

Gay – (Typically) A homosexual man.

Bisexual – A person who is attracted to both male and female genders.

Transgender – A person whose sense of his/her identity doesn’t concur with his/her birth gender.

             

The sex of a person is the label the doctor gives one at the time of birth based on his/her genitals and hormones. Gender on the other hand, is how the society thinks one should behave based on the sex label given by the doctor. But what about one’s gender identity? What about how you feel inside and how you want to show your gender? That too is important, and one starts to realise this in his/her early life. Your gender is your choice, and no one has the right to stop you from choosing it!

Doug Cooper once said that "Identity cannot be found or fabricated but emerges from within when one has the courage to let go.”  That categorizes the people of the LGBTQ community as ‘courageous’, and yet do they receive much unjust and nonessential hate from the society.

The queer community too deserves love and support, which is often denied to them. They face bullying, discrimination, and isolation among crowds. LGBTQs have trouble getting jobs even if they are potential enough. They are not allowed to sit in public places at times. They too are humans, and hence trans rights too are human rights. Denying them their entitlement is as good as a crime, and people who do so deserve to be punished!
